Privacy Policy
Your privacy is the foundation Juna is built on. Here's exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and what we'll never do with it.
Effective date: March 11, 2026 · App: Juna · Website: junaapp.com · Built by JoshThe short version
The longer version follows — but that's the part that actually matters.
What we collect and why
Account information. When you create a Juna account, we collect your email address, password (stored as a secure hash — never in plain text), full name, and username. If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive only what Apple passes to us, which may be a relay email address. We use this to identify your account and let you log in.
Your daily entries. This is the heart of the app. We store your written notes, your mood data (the color and position on the slider), and any photos you attach (up to two per entry). Premium subscribers can also attach voice memos and short videos. These are stored privately and are only visible to your accepted friends — and only the current day's entry until it locks.
Eyes-only notes. Private notes marked as eyes-only are encrypted before storage. They are never visible to your friends, never shared with anyone, and never read by us.
Social connections. We store the friend connections you make and the close friend designations you set. This is what makes the social layer work.
Events and memory capsules. If you use the events feature or create memory capsules, we store that content as part of your account.
Push notification tokens. If you opt into notifications, we store a device token to deliver them. You can opt out any time in app settings, and you can customize which types of notifications you receive.
Camera and photo library access. Juna requests access to your camera and photo library only when you're attaching a photo to an entry. We don't access your library in the background.
The waitlist
Before the app launched, the homepage at junaapp.com collected email addresses for a waitlist. These are stored in our Supabase database and are used only to notify you when the app is available. We will not send you marketing emails. We will not share your email with anyone.
Where your data lives
All Juna data is stored in Supabase, which runs on a PostgreSQL database hosted in the United States. Photos, videos, and voice memos are stored in private cloud storage buckets and served via signed URLs that expire — meaning the file links can't be shared or accessed without a fresh, authenticated request. Profile avatars are stored in a public bucket since they're meant to be visible to your friends.
We do not store your data on your device beyond normal app caching, and we do not log user data to the console in production environments.
Who can see what
Juna's entire design is organized around privacy and intentional sharing. Here's how visibility works:
- Your daily entries are visible only to your accepted friends — people you've explicitly connected with inside the app.
- Content you mark for close friends is visible only to the people you've designated as close friends.
- Eyes-only private notes are visible to no one but you. We cannot read them.
- Your profile (name, username, avatar) is visible to people you're connected with.
- There are no public profiles, no discovery feeds, and no way for strangers to find your content.
Row Level Security is enabled on every database table. Even at the infrastructure level, queries are scoped to the authenticated user — no one at Juna can run a query and see your friend's entries.
What we will never do
These aren't aspirational goals — they're structural. There is no ad system to plug into, no data broker relationships, no revenue model that depends on monetizing your attention or your information.
Data retention and deletion
Once a day passes, your entry for that day is permanently sealed. This is a core feature of Juna — your past is preserved as it was. You cannot edit or delete a locked entry, and neither can we on your behalf.
You can delete your Juna account at any time from within app settings. When you do, we delete everything: your profile, all of your entries, your photos, voice memos, videos, friend connections, and any other data associated with your account — from both the database and cloud storage. This process is permanent and cannot be undone.
Age requirement
Juna is designed for users 12 and older. The app includes social features that let you share your daily life with friends, and we take the responsibility of protecting younger users seriously. If you believe someone under 12 has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
Your rights
GDPR (European users). You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to request a copy of it (data portability), to correct inaccuracies, and to request deletion. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below.
CCPA (California users). Juna does not sell personal information. California residents have the right to know what data we collect and the right to request deletion — both of which are covered in this policy. You can also contact us directly.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we'll notify you through the app before the changes take effect. Continued use of Juna after that notice means you've accepted the updated policy. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect when it was last updated.
